What Should You DIY When It Comes To Your Wedding?

12 May 2017

Weddings can be expensive, that's just a fact of life. Many weddings can end up costing people tens of thousands of dollars, if not more! Because of that, many people have started looking for ways to save money on their special day. There are plenty of ways to do this, but one of the most popular is to take something of a DIY attitude towards a wedding. This can be absolutely fantastic since it not only saves you a lot of money, but it makes your wedding far more personal and unique that it could ever be otherwise. But can you do it with every part of your wedding? Here are some of the most important parts of any wedding that you may, or may not, be able to do yourself.

Decorations

Decorations are probably the most common element of a wedding that people tend to take a DIY approach to. There are plenty of things online that teach you how to create all kinds of different decorations that can fit any number of wedding themes. With the help of your partner and some friends, you can quite easily create a wonderful atmosphere with little more than some creativity and a few simple household items. Not only will you save money but it means that your wedding will look unlike anyone else's.

Photography

Unless you happen to have a friend who is an incredibly skilled photographer, it's probably a good idea to hire a professional to handle it. These are the memories that you're going to cherish forever, and the last thing you want is for them to be blurry, out of focus, and badly composed. If you want you can have disposable or Polaroid cameras on the tables so that guests can take photos themselves as well. That way you get the best of both worlds!

Catering

This is something that will depend on the kind of wedding that you're planning. If it's a large scale affair where you're planning on providing a three-course meal for a lot of guests, then you'll probably want to hire a catering company. But if it's less formal and with a smaller guest list then you might be able to serve food yourself more easily. Cooking up things like pies and finger foods for your guests in advance can be a great way to save a lot of money, but it's important to remember that this means you'll probably have to take a lot of time out yourself to prepare and cook all of the food.

Music

The main choice you need to make is this: band or DJ. Generally speaking, a DJ is cheaper, but there's something great about having a live band perform at your wedding. Most wedding bands have different rates depending on what you want. Of course, if you know anyone who plays in a band that would be suitable for your wedding then there's always a chance that they'll be able to give you a decent discount.

Remember that sometimes there are just going to be things that you need help from the professionals with. There's nothing wrong with that; it just means that the money that you save in other areas can go towards getting the best people for the job.
